Dolores Fortney

Dolores A. “Tootie” Fortney, 75, of Dover, died March 1, 2011, at her home.

Born Sept. 8, 1935, in Canton, Tootie was a daughter of the late Edward and Alice Erickson. She was self-employed, having run Tootie’s Ceramics for many years, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover.

A loving and wonderful mother and grandmother, Tootie will be sadly missed by her sons, William (Phyllis) Fortney of Navarre, Timothy Fortney (companion, Rhonda Affolter) of Uhrichsville, Daniel Fortney (companion, Christine Letizia), David (Amy) Fortney, and Michael (Angela) Fortney, all of Dover, and Joseph Fortney (companion, Jennie Mullen) of Canton; daughters, Debra Tester of Columbus, Kathleen (Jerry) Kerns of Malvern, Mary Jane (Terry) Mahaffey of New Philadelphia, Melanie Fortney of Mesa, Ariz., and Angela (David) Stevenson of Dover; sisters, Patricia (John) Ghezzi of North Canton, Mary Alice (Ermanno) DeDominicis of Louisville, and Donna (John) Waechter of North Canton; brothers, Thomas Erickson of Mineral City and Robert Erickson of Massillon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William “Bill” Fortney, who died in 2003; daughter, Wendy Ann Fortney; and sisters, Margaret Elaine Erickson and Janice Frank.

Funeral Mass will be held March 4, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dover, with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Friends may call March 3, from 5-8 p.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Christian Wake services starting at 7:45 p.m.
