"I am glad Bob could join us today as he knows firsthand how detrimental this provision would have been to our nation's small businesses," said McCarthy. "He has worked tirelessly to cut spending, reduce the size of government, and create an environment for job growth so we can get our economy back on track."
Gibbs remarked, "I am Bob Gibbs and I represent Ohio's 18th District. I have been a self-employed farmer since 1978 - and the 1099 provision of the health care bill is one of the most ridiculous examples of government overreach that I have ever seen.
"In order to create jobs, government needs to make it easier for small businesses, not harder. Under this provision, when I purchase one tractor tire, the government would make me send a 1099 to Millersburg Tire. I would literally have to send out dozens and dozens and dozens of 1099's and add more complicated additional paperwork to run my small farming operation.
"I ran for Congress to reduce government red tape in our lives and I am proud to cast my vote to repeal the 1099 provision."
