The community phase of the annual YMCA Strong Kids Campaign kicked-off Monday, Feb. 28, at the YMCA monthly board meeting. According to Dr. Scott Lawrence, YMCA board chairman, “Our goal for 2011 is to raise $70,000 to ensure that in 2011 every child has the opportunity to participate in YMCA programs and activities. The annual Strong Kids Campaign has been helping provide financial assistance for kids and their families in our community for more than 40 years and was originally called “Back-A-Youth Program.”
According to Lands, “Our 2011 goal is a little higher because the need continues to grow each year and we expect that 2011 will be no different. However, the generosity and support of this community never ceases to amaze us.”
Strong Kids Campaign brochures and pledge cards have been mailed to local businesses and individuals and they are asked to review the material and to consider making a pledge for the 2011 campaign. For as little as $10 per month, donors can help provide a YMCA membership for a deserving area child. Persons that contribute $1,000 per year become members of the Chairman’s Roundtable, and receive special recognition in the YMCA facility.
In addition to the annual giving campaign, a variety of special events will be a part of this year’s fundraising efforts. The annual Joe Dragovich 5K Sunset Run/Walk and Toddler Trot will be held Friday evening, May 13, the 10th annual Jack Marsh Memorial Golf Outing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17, at Oak Shadows Golf Club in New Philadelphia, and a wreath auction will be held in December.
