Bonnie Brown

Bonnie Lou Brown, 69, of New Philadelphia, died March 2, 2011, at her home, with her family at her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A daughter of George E. Douds and Ruth V. Douds-Mackey, and the adoptive daughter of Roger and Florence Mason, Bonnie was born June 22, 1941, in Cleveland. She was a 1959 graduate of Dover High School, and upon graduation attended Canton Beauty School. She later obtained an Associate Degree of Nursing from Kent State University and completed her formal education with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Akron.

For more than 30 years, Bonnie worked in the nursing field, spending 15 years with Union Hospital, Dover, and later took employment for 16 years with the Veteran’s Administration, where she worked in the Wade Park and Brecksville Hospital facilities.

In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed reading the scriptures, knitting, attending craft shows, camping trips with her family, and giving generously to all those around her.

Bonnie will be greatly missed by her family which includes daughters, Dalene (Sylvester) Young of New Philadelphia and Rhonda K. (Sheridan “Tom”) Wilcox of Dover; son, Larry (Janice) Brown of Ravenna; sister, Patricia (Sumanta) Sarkoi of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Amanda (AJ) Currie of Texas, Renee (Billy) Hoffman of Canton, Paul (Katherine) Hinkley of Hawaii, Michael Rucker (companion, Katie) of Cuyahoga Falls, Nathan Rucker of New Philadelphia, Chelci Edmonds of Akron, Marianne (Curtis) Bishop and John (Bambi) Brown, both of Ravenna, Anthony and Christopher Anderson, both of New Philadelphia, and Gabrielle Hinkley of Newcomerstown; great-grandchildren, Michele Brown, Caehdryc Hinkley, Ella Bishop, and Nichole Bishop; nephew, Stephen Peck of Upper Sandusky; and her dog, Buddy.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Brown; the love of her life, Shelby Allen; and her cat, Lil Wuss.

Services celebrating Bonnie’s life were held March 5, at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Bishop Brent Meeke officiating. Entombment was in Dover Burial Park.
