Breitenbach Wines win double gold in wine competition

Breitenbach Wine Cellars recently announced the medals awarded to their wines at the wine judging at the 2011 Florida State Fair Wine Competition. This is the 22nd year for the competition, which draws entries from wineries in 34 states and nine foreign countries.

Breitenbach Merlot won double gold. This is the first time Merlot has won a double gold. The wine is a 2008 vintage and has soft tannins in addition to overtones of licorice with a little cherry in the finish.

Breitenbach 4 Barrel Tawny Port also won a double gold. Historically, Tawny Port has always done well in competition.

Breitenbach Solara Cream Sherry won a gold medal. In 2008, Breitenbach Sherry was given the Director’s Choice award by the director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Breitenbach wines earning Silver medals were Breitenbach Blackberry and the winery’s newest wine, Breitenbach Let’s Dance, a blend of Reisling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It was first released in late 2010.
