Born Dec. 18, 1929, in Dennison, Marilyn was a daughter of the late Grace Elizabeth Hodkinson. She was a 1947 graduate of Dennison High School who, in addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker, also pursued a variety of careers over the years which included 20 years at the former Evening Chronicle, Uhrichsville, and nearly a decade as a caretaker at the West Home after her retirement from the State Data Center. Marilyn loved taking care of people, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter, who were her greatest joy. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors and working in her flower gardens. For a number of years, she played softball with the Mighty Mothers. She was Methodist by faith.
In 1952, Marilyn married Roy Francis Rogers Sr., with whom she enjoyed 25 years of marriage until his passing in 1977. They are survived by sons, Roy F. Rogers Jr. of Uhrichsville and David C. (Lorie) Rogers of Dennison; grandchildren, Joseph A. Rogers Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., Stephanie Rogers (fiance, Josh Atkins) of New Philadelphia, Keeley Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev., Adam Rogers of Dennison, Ashley Rogers of North Canton, and Cheyanna Barker of Uhrichsville; and great-granddaughter, Arie Atkins of New Philadelphia. Marilyn is also survived by her sister-in-law, Irene Hodkinson; dear friend, Gert Dalpaiz of Uhrichsville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Hodkinson; son, Joseph A. Rogers Sr.; grandson, Shannon Rogers; sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and John Willison; brother, Junior Hodkinson; mother- and father-in-law, Gladys and Charlie Rogers; nephews, Perry, Jack, and Frank; uncle, John; and aunt, Frances.
Services will be held March 9, at 11 a.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Interment will follow beside her husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call March 8, from 2-4 p.m and 6-8:00 p.m.
