Donna Jean Devore was born August 16, 1934, in Marshallville, to Richard C. and Eileen Devore, and lived nearly all her life in Wayne County. A 1952 graduate of Northwestern High School, she earned her RN diploma at Aultman Hospital, Canton, and worked as a nurse for many years at West View Manor. After her “retirement,” she continued to work as one of the self-described “demo girls” at Buehler’s Market and as a volunteer at People to People and Friendtique.
Donna was an active member of Emanuel Old Stone Church, Chester Township, for more than five decades, serving on the church council and teaching vacation Bible school. She also was a leader of the church’s Women’s Guild/WINGS, preparing funeral dinners, organizing fundraising events, and assisting with Sunday evening meals at Zion Lutheran Church for people in the Wooster community.
Over the years, Donna participated in a number of community organizations, including serving as a 4-H advisor, participating in a local women’s club, a neighborhood euchre club, and acting in the vaudeville-like spring plays sponsored by the Northwestern Ruritan Club.
Donna was married in 1955 to J. Eugene Lowe, and the couple last year celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Roger (Alexis) of Burke, Va., Richard (Beth) of Mineral City, and Scott (Sharon) of Indianapolis; daughter, Susan (Bill) Cloutier of Columbus; grandchildren, Meredith (Jerry) Keybl, Adam, Matthew and Benjamin Lowe, and Jessica Cloutier; brother, Jim (Jo) Devore of Grove, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 8, at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, with Rev. Dan Bartkowiak officiating. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
Donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd., Wooster 44691; or People to People Ministries, 454 E. Bowman St., Wooster.
