OSU Extension has announced food safety education opportunities

OSU Extension will offer two food safety training opportunities in April to assist individuals in meeting Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Level One and Level Two certification standards.

The National Restaurant Association’s employee training course will be offered on Monday, April 11, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at JIM’s Place in New Philadelphia. ServSafe employee training meets Ohio Department of Health Level One certification standards as it provides basic food safety education for food service workers (such as servers, cooks, deli workers, dishwashers, daycare workers, cafeteria and food stand workers). Employee training enhances employee understanding of major food safety principles, including time and temperature abuse, cross-contamination and personal hygiene. Participants receive a textbook—developed by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation—for participants to keep, hands-on activities, and a certificate of completion. The program cost is $20 per person for Tuscarawas County residents and those working within the county, $35 for non-county residents.

A two-day ServSafe manager’s course will be offered on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26, from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Norma Johnson Center’s Brandywine Center in Dover.

ServSafe manager training meets ODH Level Two training requirements. The program provides accurate, up-to-date information for all levels of employees on all aspects of handling food, from receiving and storing to preparing and serving. This course is designed to provide food service managers, operators, and owners with updated principles of safe food handling. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, participants receive a certificate of completion from ServSafe and certification in food protection from the Ohio Department of Health. The training cost is $125 for Tuscarawas County residents, $140 for non-residents.
