The daughter of the late Edwin and Lillian Polk, Janet was born March 12, 1925, in Cleveland. She graduated in 1942 from Shaw High School, East Cleveland. Following high school, she attended Ohio University, where she met her husband, Robert M. Chapman. They married June 29, 1947, and lived in East Cleveland until 1950, at which time they moved to Parkersburg, W.Va., and then to Dover in 1960.
Janet was a member of Dover First United Methodist Church, Twig II of the Union Hospital Auxiliary, and Union Country Club. She was a stay at home mom who deeply loved her family. She enjoyed gardening, volunteering, patchwork quilting, golfing, traveling, and playing bridge.
In addition to her husband, Bob, Jan is survived by her children, Gary R. (Elma) Chapman of Howe, Ind., Cindy (Wayne) Colvin of Bowling Green, and J. Andrew (Susan) Chapman of Dover; grandchildren, Amy Colvin of Indianapolis, Ind., R. Scott Colvin of Atlanta, Ga., Laura (James) Rosenberg, currently living in East Asia, Kimberly (Jon) Chleboun of Durham, N.C., and Mark Chapman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Vivian Duffy of South Euclid; brother, Edwin (Ann) Polk of Mayfield Village; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Robertson.
Services celebrating Jan’s life were held March 21, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Bruce McLaughlin officiating. Burial was in Dover Burial Park.
