Join the group to celebrate 30 years of Friends of the Library activities and hear Sam Gardner, Roscoe Village tollkeeper, share what life was like in Roscoe Village during the Civil War in a program entitled, Civil War on the Roscoe Village Home Front.
Stories will include descriptions of a resident who was in the Ford’s Theater the night Abraham Lincoln was killed, a resident who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court during the war, a girl from Roscoe Village who tried to enlist, the losses Roscoe Village endured, a Confederate soldier buried in Coshocton, and the “almost” Battle of Roscoe.
Set aside this night during National Library Week to enjoy Sam Gardner’s stories and learn what the Friends of the Library organization has been doing for the past year.
The dinner will be at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 201 West High St., New Philadelphia 44663 on Thursday, April 14. Dinner will be catered by Dante’s Pizza & Pasta House, and the cost per person is $14. Checks can be made out to The Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library and mailed to the library at 121 Fair Ave., New Philadelphia 44663 by Tuesday, April 5.
