NPHS musician performs in All-State Honors Band

Matt Warner

Matt Warner, a senior at New Philadelphia High School, recently participated in the OMEA All-State Honors Band in Cincinnati. Only 100 students were chosen out of more than 1,000 students who auditioned from across the state of Ohio for this elite group. The All-State Honors Band is organized only once a year for the annual OMEA Conference.

The band met at Kings Island Conference Center in Mason and held practices for two days. On the third day, they traveled to the Duke Energy Convention Center in downtown Cincinnati, where they performed a concert of extremely difficult selections.

Warner is the first student in the New Philadelphia instrumental department to be selected for this privileged group within the past 14 years. He was also the only student from Tuscarawas County to participate.

Matt is under the instruction of Jeff Furbay and Bill and Cheryl Graham.

OMEA is the Ohio Music Education Association for music educators in Ohio. This conference attracts hundreds of music educators from across the state.
