“Since the 1990s, treatment options for MS patients have improved dramatically, and additional promising therapies are on the horizon,” said Pamela Dummermuth, UH community health and wellness manager.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease of the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve.
“Symptoms and progress of the disease can vary dramatically among individuals and can range from limb numbness to paralysis and vision loss,” said Dummermuth. Approximately 10,000 to 15,000 new cases of MS are diagnosed in the U.S. every year.
