The River has held weekly meetings and numerous special meetings in the Tuscarawas Valley over the last few years. In recent days, the movement of The River has hardly been noticeable, but beneath the surface of human observation, The River has been receiving the rain of God in preparation for a new season of public ministry.
Bo Salisbury has been ministering the Word in churches, leadership conferences and evangelistic crusades for more than 20 years. His travels have taken him to 20 nations and much of the U.S. In his teenage years, he saw a day when he would establish a ministry in the Tuscarawas Valley that would contend for a move of God: one that would unite God’s people, empower them for service in God’s kingdom and ultimately reach the unchurched with the message of God’s grace. That day is upon us, hence the rising of The River.
The last few years have been instrumental in developing structure and direction for The River, which are clearly laid out in its updated website at http://www.theriveratNP.com, which contains doctrinal and vision statements, as well as perspectives on ministry, church government and church finance. Ministry products, upcoming meeting details and other helpful information are available on the website too.
One distinctive characteristic about The River is its focus on personal relationships. They believe that personal relationships are an integral part of Christian growth and maturity. Because of this emphasis, a monthly interactive book club meeting will also take place in conjunction with the monthly service. This will be a time for personal reflection regarding the content of the services, the book focused on and personal lives. While the services are leadership-led, the book club will be group-participatory.
Another important thing to note is the fact that The River meetings are not meant to be a competing force in the Christian market. They are designed to be a supplemental form of ministry that all believers can benefit from without leaving the church they are involved with. While some may call them their home church, ultimately they aim to provide a network of spiritual relationships that span across numerous local churches in the area.
