Music runs deep at Tuscarawas Valley (TV) local schools, and beloved teacher Frank Corbi would have been proud to know a performing arts workshop for Tuscarawas Valley students in grades K-4 was held in his honor and memory on Saturday, April 2, at Tuscarawas Valley Middle School. The event was sponsored and organized by the Trojan Foundation, a nonprofit organization designed to fund a multitude of scholarships for graduating seniors. Corbi served as the Tusky Valley band and choir director for 31 years.

Forty students participated in the event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as they rotated through six fine arts stations: Pounding Percussion, co-led by Bobby Stocker and Chris Corbi; Finding Your Voice (musical performance of “Allegiance Rap”) with superintendent Mark Murphy; Baton Twirling with TV majorettes Rachel Rich and Raya Williamson; Musical Recorder/Flutaphone, co-led by Kim Charton and Mary Alice Biclawski (Corbi); Art with Music by middle school art teacher Kim Vanoster; and Experimenting with Instruments with middle school instrumental teacher Scott Sommer. Parents were invited to attend a performance at 12:30 p.m. to showcase what their children learned while at the workshop.

Cost to participate was $10, with all proceeds going toward Tuscarawas Valley scholarships. Consideration is being given to invite students from other Tuscarawas County schools to participate in the future.
