Floyd Wright

Floyd Emmett Wright, 82, of Gnadenhutten, died April 1, 2011, at Affinity Medical Center, Massillon, following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Harold and Anna Wright, Floyd was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Stratton. He graduated from Toronto High School in 1946. On June 4, 1949, he married the love of his life, the former Margaret Blaschak, and together they raised two sons, David and Christopher.

Floyd spent 40 years working in supervisory positions for clay tile manufacturers. He had worked for Empire Clay, Larson Clay, and Peerless Clay, all in the Toronto Ohio area, and retired as plant engineer in 1990 from Superior Clay, Uhrichsville. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Dennison, where he served on the parish finance committee for several years. In addition, he was a former member of both the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge and the Toronto Knights of Columbus.

Floyd was an accomplished wood worker and especially enjoyed making cabinetry. He was also a skilled electrician and made many electrical upgrades to his home and those of family and friends, always refusing payment for his services. He loved decorating for Christmas and the outdoor displays he created included in excess of 10,000 lights.

Floyd was an avid collector of music recordings, with his favorite type of music being classic country from the ‘50s and ‘60s. He built his own stereo system from components and enjoyed converting LPs to cassettes so he could take his music with him when he traveled.

Each year Floyd planted a large garden, and in keeping with his giving personality, would give most of the produce to neighbors, friends, and family.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 62 years, Margaret; his sons, David (Linda) Wright of Gnadenhutten and Christopher (Lou Ann) Wright of Tustin, Calif.; grandchildren, Steven and Amanda of Gnadenhutten, Raynelle of New York City, and Ryan of Cincinnati; brother, Clayton (Clara) Wright of Canton; cousins, Dorothy Auw of Chicago and Jim Wright of Cleveland; nephew, Gerald (Betsy) Brown of New Castle, Pa.; and nieces, Kathy Brown of New Castle, Pa., Linda (Richard) Price of Whitesville, N.C., Cheryl (Bill) Costner of Dublin, and Debra (Richard) Pluta of Greenwich, Conn.

He was preceded in death by a sister Verna Brown; and niece, Shirley Brown.

In keeping with Floyd’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Memorial services are planned for a later date.

Those wishing to do so may send the family personal condolences and view an online memorial at http://www.geibcares.com.

Contributions may be made in Floyd’s memory to Immaculate Conception Church, 206 N. First St., Dennison 44621.
