Often times, today’s youth get a bad rap for not showing enough consideration for others. Today, we are writing to share an event that shows there are some exceptional youth in our community.
On Friday, April 8, the Leadership Academy, made up of high school students from Claymont, Dover, and New Philadelphia, sponsored a Spring Dance for students from Starlight School and adults from the Starlight workshop, along with students from their own special education classes.
This group, under the leadership of LeeAnn Jackson, coordinated the entire activity from securing the venue (Claymont High School), refreshments (cookies, cupcakes, drinks), flowers (for both guys and gals) and a DJ (two of the members of the group). The only thing we had to do was show up and enjoy the festivities and help chaperone.
It is truly nice to see that there are youth of today willing to step up to a leadership role and support those less fortunate than themselves. The interaction between both groups was touching to say the least. Everyone had a great time!
We want to send out a special thank you to all who participated and wish our future leaders success in all their future endeavors. If this dance is any indication, we are sure they will be very successful.
