The museum is specifically seeking one student in each category: One with a passion for history and artifacts, one who enjoys creating, planning and implementing special events, a third who wants to put their technology skills to work, and a fourth student who is interested in the business and marketing end of operating a museum or nonprofit. The depot will offer four internship positions focusing on these areas of technology, history and preservation, event planning, and marketing/business.
Intern students are invited to be part of the Dennison Depot team, and the very first Depot Ontrack Vision Generators, and learn valuable skills working project driven experiences. The four students will be actively engaged not only shadowing and learning from staff, but also focusing on creating their own project and creating a vision for the future as part of the DOVGs. Students have a chance to learn at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, but take part in three museums, each at a different stage of development. Participants will have the opportunity to travel between Historic Schoenbrunn Village and the Uhrichsville Clay Museum also. Throughout the summer program, students will learn valuable leadership, teambuilding, and networking skills as well as well as resume building experience.
Upon completion of this challenging program, all students will also receive a certificate of completion, recommendation letters, and a $250 stipend.
Only one student will be offered a position in each category. For anyone who is excited about learning, about the exchange of new ideas, about developing new skills and getting involved in the local community, this program may be a perfect fit. Specialized projects can include such activities as problem solving, inventorying and researching artifacts, assisting in collection management, creating new museum storage spaces, grant writing, event planning for small events and major events such as The American Soldiers Homecoming Festival, Clayworkers Picnic, Colonial Trade Fair, and children’s workshops, creative writing for press releases and public speaking for programs and tours, social media skills to promote the museums, creation of databases, and customer service relationships.
High school students beginning their junior or senior years and all college students are eligible to participate. Each must complete an application for this summer experience, go through an interview process and provide two letters of recommendation. The internship will begin in June and last through August. Scheduling will be flexible, but participants must be able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week. Applications are available at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum or by emailing director@dennisondepeot.org.
