Phyllis McCullough

Phyllis McCullough, 86, of Gnadenhutten, died suddenly May 3, 2011, at her home.

Born August 20, 1924, in Wainwright, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Enrico and Luigia Maria Besozzi. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Tuscarawas Warwick High School in the class of 1942. She was a longtime member of John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church, Gnadenhutten, where she had been very active in the life of the congregation, serving as a Sunday school teacher and as a past officer of the Moravian Women. She was also a member of the Gnadenhutten Women’s Club and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Phyllis was employed for many years at U.S. Concrete Pipe Co., as well as the Gnadenhutten Public Library.

Surviving are a son, Michael (Judy) McCullough of Reynoldsburg; daughter, Sharon (Robert) Hannon of Sugarcreek; three grandsons, Major Jonathan (Lisa Marie) Hannon of Hawaii, Capt. Jeffrey Hannon of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Christopher McCullough of Reynoldsburg; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Eirinn, and Maille Hannon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Willard McCullough, whom she married Oct. 16, 1948; and siblings, Mauro, Reno, and Catherine Besozzi.

Services were held May 6, at John Heckewelder Memorial Moravian Church, Gnadenhutten, with Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Interment was in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery.
