“I can’t think of a more worthy cause to support than your community hospital,” said Deeds. “All of your hard work throughout the year and your generous support enables Union Hospital to acquire state-of-the-art equipment and help us to provide quality care, close to home.
“You have my gratitude as both a member of the board and a citizen of this community,” Deeds added.
In presenting the check to the hospital leadership, auxiliary president Phyllis Markworth of Dover noted the gift is the largest annual donation the auxiliary has ever made to the hospital. Since its founding in 1949, Markworth says the auxiliary has made donations to the hospital totaling $2,808,853.
The auxiliary also honored community organizations that earned special recognition as People’s Choice Award winners for their participation in several fundraising events in 2010 and 2011. For the second consecutive year, Lisa Tritt, owner/operator of Sweetie’s Place in Bolivar, was presented the People’s Choice Award for her entry in the Chocolate Love A’fair event held in February.
Connie Finton of New Philadelphia, chairperson of the UH Auxiliary Christmas Tree Festival at Warther Museum, presented the People’s Choice Large Tree Award to Annette Levengood of Dover. The tree was sponsored by Sound Energy Company, Inc. The People’s Choice Small Tree Award was presented to Tuscarawas County Pork Producers representatives Sue Canfield and Pam Bleininger.
The Union Hospital Auxiliary invites anyone interested in joining the organization to call the volunteer services office at the hospital for more information at 330-364-0833.
