TCIAFFI announces scholarship awards, continues to build new stage

After a covered dish dinner was enjoyed by all, the June meeting of the Tuscarawas County Italian-American Festival Foundation, Inc. was held at the Knisely farm. Joe Sciarretti reported that the frame for the new stage had been taken to Ionno Construction, where the stage is going to be constructed. Several members will be at Ionno’s to assist with construction on June 25 at 8 a.m.

Golf sponsorships are still coming in for the John Vesco Memorial golf tournament. The tournament will be held at Green Valley Golf Club on July 9, beginning at 8 a.m. Details and registration for the two-man scramble are available at the golf course. Ads for the souvenir program are still being received and all content will be at the printer’s by July 1.

All banners and posters will be distributed by July 1. Anyone who would like to display one or knows of someone who will display one should call 330-364-2883. The license application for the festival has been submitted to the state of Ohio. Plans were also completed to participate in the Dennison Railroad Festival parade.

The scholarship committee is in the process of notifying the students who have been selected to receive this year’s scholarship awards. They are being informed that they must submit a photo for publicity purposes and they must be present at the Mayor’s Breakfast on August 12 in Tuscarawas Central Catholic Elementary, beginning at 7:30 a.m. If for reasons beyond their control they can’t be present, they must have a family member there to accept the award for them.

The next meeting will be held July 20 at the Knisely farm, beginning at 6 p.m. and everyone should bring a covered dish and a beverage of their choice. Any person desiring to assist with raising money for scholarships and promoting Italian heritage is invited to attend.
