And the best fireworks show around will be held Monday, July 4, in the amphitheater at Atwood Lake Park.
The fireworks display, which begins at dark, has been moved from the Atwood Lake Resort property to the amphitheater inside Atwood Lake Park. As usual, it will be visible from throughout much of the lake region.
It’s part of a full weekend of activities at Atwood Lake Park planned Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4. Events for all members of the family are planned throughout the weekend at the park.
The schedule of events July 1 include a “human tic-tac-toe” game at 1 p.m. and card games at 7 p.m. July 2, visitors can enjoy story time for ages 4-9 at 9:30 a.m., a kids craft at 10 a.m., creative cooking class at 11:30 a.m. and a nature hike at 1 p.m. A kids carnival begins at 3 p.m., an open mike comedy night and a dutch auction follow at 7 p.m.
The events July 3 start with a church service at 8 a.m., a bike parade at 11 a.m. and a “cherry on top” contest at 1 p.m. A square dance is planned at 8 p.m. in Shelter B in the campgrounds.
On Monday, July 4, the day begins with a fitness walk at 8 a.m. and then tie-dye T-shirts at 3 p.m. A magician, Ed Ellis, will perform at 6:30 p.m., followed by the band 8 Track with Elvis at 8 p.m. The park’s giant fireworks show follows at dark.
The park is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and the swimming beach is open from noon to 8 p.m.
Camping also is available for a fee with a full hookup (includes electric and sewer service), sites with electric only, and primitive sites. Discounts apply for stays of at least 30 days. Group camping also is available. Reservations can be made by calling the park at 330-343-6780 or by sending an email to atwood@mwcd.org for availability and details.
The park also features two-bedroom family vacation cabins that sleep up to six people and include air conditioning, along with patio cabins with air conditioning. Overnight boat docking also can be purchased by guests of the park who are camping or staying in a cabin. The park offers rentals of its picnic shelters.
