A son of the late Harlan and AnnaBelle Fisher, Larry was born Dec. 24, 1946, in New Philadelphia. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1965. In 1967, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. During his time in the service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, along with two Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal.
Larry retired from Wonder Bread, Dover, in 2004, where he worked as a supervisor. He was also a veteran football official, receiving his 25-year pin at the conclusion of last season. He officiated all levels of football and was a member of the Tuscarawas Football Officials Association and the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
Larry was also an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing golf and racing - especially building race cars with his grandson. He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and often could be found cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers only to keep peace with other family members. He was also a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. Larry enjoyed visiting casinos and was a member of New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Fisher, whom he married May 6, 1999; sons, Kevin (Dawn) Rector of New Philadelphia and Kelly (Angela) Rector of Jackson Township; daughter, Crystal Fisher of Dennison; grandchildren, Jessica (Grant) Smith, Kyle Rector, Tiffany Walton, and Corey Fisher; great-grandchildren, Kolton and Amelia Smith; sister, Carole (Richard) Harmon of Bolivar; brother, Michael (Sally) Fisher of Columbus; his beloved dog, Benji; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Services celebrating Larry’s life were held July 9, at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial was in Dover Burial Park.
