On August 21, the fort will host “Dressed for Battle,” a one-of-a-kind event. Watch as Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers get dressed for battle, explaining each piece of clothing and equipment as they get into uniform. Dressed for Battle starts at 3 p.m. A fee will be charged.
The next event at the fort will be a hands-on demonstration of an archeological dig Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. A limited number of spots for children in grade four and up are available. The children will get to help uncover buried artifacts at a working archeological dig while learning about the history of the Fort Laurens area, going back thousands of years. RSVP by Oct. 1 by calling 330-874-2059.
Learn about the creepy side of the American Revolution during Fort Lauren’s third annual Trick or Treaty. Costumed guides will take visitors on a tour of the fort’s museum and grounds and highlight the struggles and deaths at the fort during its siege in the winter of 1778. This is a truly unique experience, a chance to learn about the stuff left out of history books. An admission fee will be charged, which will include drinks, treats and the tour. Trick or Treaty will be held four times, Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29, from 5-9 p.m., with the final tour starting at 8:30.
