Dr. Kevin Huff, a Dover dentist, has been invited to participate in the 87th annual Greater New York Dental Meeting scheduled for Friday, Nov. 25 through Wednesday, Nov. 30 in New York City.

The Greater New York Dental Meeting offers educational programs for all dental professionals. Their programs are known for their uniqueness and innovation. As a clinician, Dr. Huff’s contribution will greatly enhance their program.

This meeting is the largest dental convention, exposition and congress in the United States and is a premier attraction for people in the dental community worldwide. Last year’s meeting hosted more than 58,000 dental professionals.

Huff has been invited to participate in the essay program. The essay program consists of three speakers that present on the same general topic geared toward dentists. Each speaker gives a separate presentation on one aspect of that topic.

Huff will present his essay on the general subject of oral pathology. He is scheduled to present his essay on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 10:45 a.m., at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. There will be two additional speakers on the program with him.

“Since I have been lecturing around the United States and in Canada for several years, I am regularly receiving invitations. Actually, I have to turn down several invitations because of my primary commitments to my family and my patients in my dental practice. However, this invitation is unique in that the Greater New York Dental Meeting, with over 58,000 attendees, is the largest meeting in the United States, even surpassing the ADA annual convention. This meeting is very prestigious and speakers are by careful invitation only. Scouts from around the world come to this meeting to evaluate speakers for possible instructors at their local events. So, I am very honored and humbled to have been invited to present my course on dental ethics and oral cancer screening, Ethical Considerations and Decision-Making Methodology for Integrating Oral Mucosal Screening into a General Dental Practice,” said Huff.

Huff graduated from Tuslaw High School at Massillon and was valedictorian for the class of 1989. He then went on to attend the Ohio State University College of Dentistry at Columbus and became licensed to practice in the state of Ohio in 1996. In 2003, he attended the Academy of General Dentistry at Nashville, Tenn. where he achieved the level of Fellow. He received his master’s degree at the Academy of General Dentistry at Denver, Colo. in 2006. He continues to participate in continuing education programs today.

Huff is a sought-after lecturer on the topic of oral mucosal screening techniques and related risk management and dental ethics. He has lectured around the United States and in Canada and has published numerous articles in General Dentistry, Dentistry Today, Parkell Today, and Dental Economics.

“Oral cancer is the 10th most common cancer in the United States. However, the five-year survival rate remains at 53 percent, which it has been since approximately 1970. In my opinion, that’s why proper use of adjunctive oral cancer screening aids is ethical. I’m not happy with a 53 percent survival rate, when survival rates of nearly every other cancer have improved dramatically in recent years,” said Huff.

Huff holds the status of Master in the Academy of General Dentistry and has been a clinical instructor in the department of comprehensive care at the Case School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland for 13 years. He is also the coordinator of oral mucosal screening for the Mercy Medical Center Dental GPR Program in Canton.

In addition to participating in the essay program at the 87th annual Greater New York Dental Meeting, Huff will be giving courses at Sandestin, Fla. for the Alabama Academy of General Dentistry and in Minneapolis, Minn. for the Minnesota Academy of General Dentistry this September.

Huff resides in Dover with his wife, Stacie, and their daughter, Kamdyn.
