Tuscarawas County Homemakers Council events

The September meeting of the Tuscarawas County Homemakers Council was held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 9:30 a.m., at the Tuscarawas County office of Ohio State University Extension. Seven members representing two groups were present. Colleen Connor read Weather Lore from a collection of Pennsylvania Dutch folklore. Lucille Steel, council president, led members in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Ohio Homemakers Creed.

Modern will be designing this year’s fair booth. The Tuscarawas County Fair runs Monday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 26.

The District Homemakers fall meeting will be held at Mr. Lee’s Restaurant in Cambridge Sept. 29. Topics will include aromatherapy, Dickens Victorian Village, and a visit to the National Museum of Cambridge Glass. Members are also encouraged to attend the OHCE annual state meeting, which will be held at Sauder Village in Archibold Oct. 18-19. Those competing in the Cultural Arts and Family Life photo contests need to make arrangements for those items to be taken to state.

Members discussed the November craft, Gift Mixes from a Jar, which will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Members will be making jars of potato soup mix and rainbow oatmeal cookies and are also encouraged to bring a jar idea “show and tell.”

Several members enjoyed the bus trip to Rittman May 21 to view the veterans stone to which Tuscarawas County Homemakers contributed. A celebration was held for the Homemaker Family of the Year, the Buchanan family. Approximately 25 were in attendance, including past recipients who reflected upon the importance of this award and what it has meant to their family.
