An appointment can be made by registering online at the Union Hospital website, http://www.unionhospital.org. Go to the Health Events calendar for September and click on the Kiwanis Community Health Profile event on Sept. 24. Complete the online registration form for each person wishing to attend the event. When an email address is provided during online registration, a message will be sent by the hospital to the email address provided to confirm the appointment time.
The cost again this year is $40 for the blood profile and $15 additional for the PSA. Those without appointments may walk in between 10 and 11 a.m. on the morning of the event. All blood profile participants are asked to fast for 12 hours before the time of their blood testing.
Each participant will receive a cholesterol lipid panel, testing levels of HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), and triglycerides, plus testing for anemia, kidney and liver disease, diabetes, and thyroid function. A PSA test for prostate cancer for men over 50 years of age is also available. All participants will be offered a blood pressure check.
Within two weeks, each participant will receive a written report of their blood profile results. Any result outside of the normal range will be identified. A copy of the report will also be sent to the patient’s family doctor if requested by the patient.
Members of the New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club assist with taking appointments and with hosting participants at the hospital on the morning of the event. Proceeds are used by the club for its many community service projects.
