“This year the theme of the tea will be the classics and feature fashions from television show icons such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show and up to the 1980s with the show Dallas, and I’m sure that the main fashion for that show will be shoulder pads,” said Kim Jurkovic, director of the Dover Historical Society and J.E. Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum. “We’ve held the tea and style show as a way to incorporate some of the clothing, mainly dresses, that the historical society has received over the years. When the show was originally conceived it used some of the clothing the Reeves family wore, but since then those have gone into a special collection and are no longer worn. We now have a collection of clothing that we set aside just for events such as the fashion show, pieces of clothing that can be worn without fear of damaging them.
“Over the years each Tea and Style Show has had a theme that allows us to showcase the fashions of a certain era or of a certain style. It gives us a chance to show how fashion has changed over the years, so it’s not only a fashion show but also a chance for the audience to learn something new. This year our emcees will be Patti Feller and Dover Mayor Rick Homrighausen, and the show was written in Spain by our director, who is on leave, Matt Lautzenheiser.”
The way the Tea and Fashion Show will work is, there will be four courses to the tea, starting with mini, individual cheese balls, and working its way to a light dessert, the way a traditional tea works. Between each course there will be a program featuring certain fashions that will be discussed by the emcees along with music being played. This year the food will be provided by Dutch Valley Catering, who worked with the museum to create a special menu for this event.
“The Tea and Style Show is a unique event for people to attend. It’s a throwback to the traditions and styles of eras gone by and gives visitors the chance to relive those times,” said Jurkovic. “We still have tickets available for those interested in attending. The cost is $23 for non-members of the Dover Historical Society and $20 for members. For more information, call 330-343-7040.”
