Tusc County Art Guild talks about the Painted Ladies

The “Painted Ladies” of San Francisco no longer look like a pastel, patchwork quilts. According to Olivia Legg, color consultant for The Sherwin-Williams Company in New Philadelphia, the Victorian-style homes have been “redressed” in updated, warm, earth tones. She also discussed with the members of the Tuscarawas County Art Guild, at their September meeting, how the homeowner’s personality plays an important part in making decisions about paint and wallpaper.

Vice president, Paul Reynolds of New Philadelphia, talked about the proposed Spectrum 7 Art Gallery in Bolivar. He conducted a poll to see how many members are interested in displaying their art work at the gallery; and also, how many are willing to volunteer a few hours a month at the site. A telephone survey of those members who were not present will also be taken.

Display chairman, Jim Maullar of Dover, discussed the annual Fall Art Show at New Towne Mall, scheduled the weekend of Oct. 21-23. He suggested a new display set-up, with angled panels, to allow for better viewing by the mall visitors.

Kathy Miles, representing the Tuscarawas Friends of the Homeless, spoke on the upcoming “Autumn Odyssey” sponsored by the Pathway To Wellness Committee, on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Center for the Arts, from 7-10 p.m. The fundraiser will include a display of high school students’ artwork, and paintings for sale by local artists, along with wine tasting and music.

The Art Guild’s October meeting will feature a program by Chinese artist, Yan Sun, the director of art at the Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. A collage of the talented artist’s paintings are presently on display at the Center for the Arts, 461 Robinson Dr., SE in New Philadelphia, through Oct. 14. Weekday gallery hours are from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

Refreshments were served by Karen Thornton of Zoar and Karen Gazdik of New Philadelphia. The Tuscarawas County Art Guild meets at the Center for the Arts the third Tuesday of each month, at 7 p.m. Guests are always welcome. The organization is open to all visual artists and photographers of any skill level, working in any medium. For more information, contact Jane Gartrell at 330-364-3938 or at P.O.
