The Zeisberger Trail and Parks (ZTAP) group will be celebrating at their next meeting on Oct. 11. A recent donation from Dominion Gas and several individual donations allowed the group to reach their goal of $13,000, which is needed to create the trail and parks plan for Warwick Township and the village of Tuscarawas.

ZTAP also thanks everyone who made the steak dinner fundraiser, held on July 16, a great success with a total of $1,754.82 raised. Everyone is welcome to attend the Oct. 11 meeting, to be held at 7 p.m. at the Tuscarawas Community Center on Cherry Street in Tuscarawas. There will be pizza, beverages and a few others snacks provided by the Ohio and Erie Canalway Coalition and the ZTAP members.

At the last meeting, members started the process of selecting officers. Anyone with an interest in participating in this group and/or being an officer can attend one of the meetings or call Joe Krocker at 330-987-9021.

ZTAP met with the Tuscarawas Village Council on Sept. 22. Several members of Tuscarawas Village Council have volunteered to serve on a steering committee. The committee would also like to have representation from ZTAP members and Warwick Township as well. The planning process will take approximately six months and will include community meetings to help determine what features should be in the new and existing parks, locations of trails, ongoing maintenance of the trails, and who will ultimately own the different parts of the trails and parks.

ZTAP is now accepting donations toward the building phase of the trails and parks. Any local donations and grants can be used as match money toward much larger state and federal grants. The group accepts donations using a credit or debit card on the organization’s website, http://www.tuscvg.org/parktrail.html. Checks may be sent to: The Friends of Tuscarawas County Parks, c/o Ted Gerber - Zeisberger Trail and Parks, Box 23, Sugarcreek 44681. All donations are tax-deductible through the Friends of Tuscarawas County Parks.

Zeisberger Trail and Parks is raising funds to plan, build, and maintain parks and trails in Goshen, Wainwright, Tuscarawas, Gnadenhutten and Port Washington areas. Meetings for the group are held on the second Tuesday of every month, at 7 p.m., at the Tuscarawas Community Center on Cherry Street in Tuscarawas. New members are welcome.
