“We decided to go about a mile down and back on the trail, but anyone could have gone as far as they wanted. The weather today was fantastic, just the perfect temperature and sunny. The last time we held a walk, which was earlier in the summer, it was just so hot and we ended up carrying back one of our dogs,” said Sandy Miskimen, treasurer of the Tuscarawas Valley Kennel Club. “The idea of the dog walk was that we wanted to do something for our members to come together and spend time with each other and with their dogs.”
“We were not able to hold our Strut Your Mutt event this year, so we wanted to do something for people to come together, so the idea of these dog walks came about,” said Hugh Miskimen, president of the Tuscarawas Valley Kennel Club.
The Tuscarawas Valley Kennel Club is an organization for dog lovers in Tuscarawas County and along with holding events for owners and their furry friends, members of the kennel club also have access to a large area for pets to roam, including a large fenced in area.
“The dog walk also let people who are not members of the kennel club experience what we’re about and spend time with us,” said Hugh Miskimen. “It’s great to get the dogs out and spend time with them outside. That’s the idea behind our member’s area, a 10-acre area with a large fenced area for leash-off fun for the dogs.”
“Today was just a great day for a walk, and it’s great to spend that time with other dog lovers,” said Shirley Vrsan, secretary of the Tuscarawas Valley Kennel Club. “The walk today was great with all the trees turning, and I was happy to see so many people who came out for the walk. We had a couple of people who heard about the walk who aren’t members and decided to join us, so it was great to see them out here with them, and I hope they choose to become members. The last walk we held was too hot, so there weren’t as many people and we couldn’t walk as much as we did today. We want to hold more walks in the future and hopefully this grows into a normal thing and helps grow the membership of the kennel club. It’s just fun to spend time outside with your best friend, your dog.”
