Born Dec. 18, 1916, in Bethlehem Township, Bolivar, Irene was a daughter of the late Earl and Beulah Roush. At age five she lost her mother to the flu and lived with her father and grandmothers until the age of 13, when her father married the late Grace Yackey, who would then become her loving stepmother.
Irene was a former member of Beach City Lutheran Church and attended Wooster Highway and Strasburg Schools and briefly worked at Garver Brothers Store. After her marriage, she assisted her husband, Russell, with the dairy and beef farm while raising her family. She and Russell loved traveling and took trips to Europe, Hawaii, and Florida. She was interested in family research and was a member of the First Families of Stark County. Irene also enjoyed sewing and crocheting and helped crochet lap robes for nursing homes and the Pittsburgh UPMC Family Houses.
Irene will be sadly missed by her children, Russell (Connie) Hartline Jr. of Beach City, Dwight (Diane) Hartline of Massillon, Carol (Gary) Sliffe of Beach City, and Nancy (Donald) Palmer of Massillon; sister, Marian (Pete) Angelo of Strasburg; brothers, Robert Roush of New Philadelphia and Rev. Dean (Barbara) Roush of Hilliard; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Russell R. Hartline Sr.; sister, Hazel Lewis; and brothers, Wayne and Blake Roush.
Services were held Oct. 22, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Lynda Masters officiating. Interment was in Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg.
