Richard Robinson

Richard Robinson, 84, of Newcomerstown, died Oct. 27, 2011, at his residence.

Richard was born April 10, 1927, in Columbus, to the late Ben C. and Beatrice Lucille Robinson. His family moved to Newcomerstown shortly after his birth. He was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, class of 1945, and attended the Art Students League of New York.

Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a supply clerk with the 34th Station Hospital in Italy. Following the war, he returned home and worked for several years as a self-employed landscape artist in the Newcomerstown area. In 1954, he joined the Ohio Department of Highways, which later became the Ohio Department of Transportation, and served as a public information officer and engineering technician until his retirement in 1983. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Robinson Information Services, Newcomerstown, for several years.

Richard was a charter member and past president of the former New Philadelphia Exchange Club. He was a member emeritus of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Republican National Committee. He also belonged to the New Philadelphia Lions Club, where he served as treasurer, Thomas Montgomery Post 431, Newcomerstown American Legion, Calvary United Methodist Church, Newcomerstown, and Lone Star Masonic Lodge 175, Newcomerstown. Richard was a well-respected member of the community and together with his late wife, Helen, gave their time and resources freely for many worthy causes. He and Helen will be dearly missed.

Richard is survived by stepsons, W. Benjamin Isenberg II of Canton and Joseph Albert (Debra) Isenberg of Eugene, Ore.; stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Cameron of New Philadelphia, Valerie Isenberg and Benjamin Isenberg, both of Eugene, and Emily Isenberg of New York City; stepgreat-grandchildren, Lauren and Dylan Cameron, both of New Philadelphia; and his special caregiver and friend, Nancy L. Gibson of Newcomerstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Robinson, whom he married Oct. 26, 1968; brother, Ben C. Robinson Jr.; and stepfather, J. Albert Schilling.

Services to celebrate Richard’s life will be held Nov. 1, at 11 a.m., at Ourant Funeral Home, with Rev. Eric Miller officiating. Burial will follow in East State Street Cemetery, Newcomerstown, where the Newcomerstown Veterans’ Honor Guard will perform military graveside services. Visiting hours will be held Oct. 31, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services.

Family requests memorials be made in Richard’s name to the New Philadelphia Lions Club, P.O. Box 346, New Philadelphia 44663; or Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Newcomerstown 43832.
