On Nov. 12, the D.A.R. Fort Laurens chapter met in Union Country Club at Dover. After lunch was served the meeting was conducted with two programs.

Operation Christmas Child is a Good Samaritan program where shoe boxes are filled with items and sent to needy children for Christmas.

Historian/librarian Mary Haggis presented A Family Legacy.

She has been interested in family history since her teenage years. She has traced her family back to England. In 1638 they came to America and were in Massachusetts during the time of the witch trials in 1692. It was found out that many children had made up the stories about people being witches just for the excitement. Some of them finally confessed to this in their adult years. Mary’s patriot from the Revolutionary War was Gamaliel Ripley.

Mary now lives in Dover with her husband, William Haggis. It was a very informative presentation.

Members were reminded to bring shirts and socks for the December program. The clothing will be given to veterans in area nursing homes.

The next meeting will be held at The Pro’s Table in New Philadelphia Dec. 10 at noon.
