Charles Butler

Charles “Bob” Butler, 88, of Walnut Creek, died Nov. 23, 2011, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, following an extended illness.

Born May 29, 1923, in Akron, Bob was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Butler. He was a licensed funeral director in Ohio for 50 years and owned and operated the former Butler Funeral Home, Sugarcreek, from 1962-84. He was a member of Shanesville Lutheran Church, Sugarcreek, where he sang in the church choir. He was a former member of the Sugarcreek Rotary Club and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Butler, whom he married Sept. 8, 1945; sons, Kenneth (Peggy) Butler of Tionesta, Pa., and Edward (Dawn) Butler of Sugarcreek; four grandchildren, Crystal (Larry) Yoder, Carrie (Sedric) Gerber, and Joseph and Sam Butler; two stepgrandchildren, Lindsay and Leah Brown; and sister, Joan Stalnaker of Akron.

Services will be held Nov. 27, at 7 p.m., at Shanesville Lutheran Church, Sugarcreek, with Rev. Ellen Mills officiating. Private family burial and committal services will be Nov. 28, in East Lawn Cemetery, Sugarcreek. Friends may call Nov. 27, from 2-5 p.m., at Smith-Varns Funeral Home, Sugarcreek.
