Max Ritenour Jr.

Max V. Ritenour Jr., 65, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Dec. 6, 2011.

A son of the late Max Sr. and Mae Ritenour, Max was born Nov. 27, 1946, at Union Hospital, Dover. He was a 1965 graduate of Dover High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army for more than 16 years as an active duty and reserve forces member. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was stationed state-side in Texas and Virginia and overseas in Germany. At the time of his discharge, he held the rank of staff sergeant.

For more than 20 years, Max served the local area as an owner/operator truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and taking trips to Wheeling Island, Mountaineer, and Gatlinburg, Tenn.

The activities he enjoyed most were spending time with his wife and granddaughter. Additionally, he particularly enjoyed the social interaction of those around him and conversing with others at local establishments. He was a life member of Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW and the Army-Navy at Shady Rest, as well as holding memberships at the Dover Eagles and the New Philadelphia Am-Vets.

Max will forever be remembered by his family which includes his wife of 24 years, Kathy Ritenour, whom he married Sept. 18, 1987; her son, whom he raised as his own, T.J. (Jenica) Smith of Bolivar; beloved granddaughter, Makenzie; daughter, Rhonda of Arizona and her five children; sister, Marcia Eichelberger (fiance, Marty Sauser) of Stone Creek; brothers, Mike (Alice) Ritenour of Bolivar, Mark (Cheryl) Ritenour of Atwood, and Matt (Cindy) Ritenour of Tuscarawas; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a number of aunts and uncles.

Memorial services celebrating Max’s life were held Dec. 11, at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, with Rev. Hugh B. Berry officiating.
