Open registration for winter YMCA classes

Open registration for YMCA winter classes begins Wednesday, Dec. 14 and are open to anyone in the community. Youth basketball, swimming, fitness and gymnastics are just a few of the programs that are being offered.

Get a jump on the New Year’s resolution by registering now for Zumba fitness, yoga, fitness belly dancing, shred, burn intervals, ultimate fit, and spinning, just to name a few. The YMCA offers fitness classes for everyone from the very beginner to the seasoned exerciser. For the active senior, the Silver Sneakers classes offer a great workout and are free for Silver Sneakers participants.

Water exercise has long been recognized as one of the best ways to workout for any age. YMCA water exercise classes include water Zumba, aqua aerobics, Aqua Grooves, and Joy of Living. The Twinges program is an exercise program specifically designed for those individuals suffering from arthritis, and takes place in the YMCA’s warm water pool. You need not be a swimmer to participate in water exercise classes.

Youth indoor soccer and basketball skills classes are offered, as well as Judo for beginner through competitive teams for youth and adults. Women’s and co-ed volleyball leagues are now forming, too. Other unique classes include life guarding, private swim lessons, private gymnastics lessons, personal trainers and creative drawing.

Family nights are held each month with Christmas with the Grinch on Dec. 16, Family Fitness Night on Jan. 27, 2012 and the annual Family Luau on Feb. 24, 2012.
