The public is encouraged to attend the Jan. 10 meeting of the Zeisberger Trail and Parks (ZTAP) to view and give input on the proposed trail and parks plan. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Tuscarawas Community Center on Cherry Street. Residents and officials from Tuscarawas, Gnadenhutten, Wainwright, Goshen, Port Washington, and the Warwick Township area should attend to help determine the best locations for trails, park improvements and additional features. The village of Tuscarawas and Warwick Township have been participating in the planning process. Additional input is needed from Gnadenhutten area residents and officials in order for their plan to be developed. The final plan is to be presented at the ZTAP April meeting.

Attending the session will be Dan Rice, of the Ohio and Erie Canalway Coalition, and Dennis Mersky, of the Floyd Browne Group. Mersky presented the first revision of the comprehensive trail and parks plan at a meeting held Dec. 13. The revision includes a new 25-acre park with baseball and softball fields, a multi-purpose soccer/football field, picnic pavilions, playground, restrooms and additional parking. More than eight miles of trail, as well as trail networks, will connect the villages of Tuscarawas and Gnadenhutten. Those in attendance at the December meeting discussed historical sites and other points of interest that could be visited once the trails were complete.

The group plans to meet with ODOT to propose an extension of the Tappan-Moravian Trail Scenic Byway that would take the scenic byway into Dennison, Uhrichsville, Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas, Schoenbrunn, Brightwood and the Midvale area. These regions represent the heart of Ohio Moravian history.

For more information, visit the website at www.tuscvg.org/ztap. The group is now accepting donations toward the construction of the trail and parks system.
