United Way campaign update

The United Way of Tuscarawas County is on track to reach this year’s campaign goal. As of Dec. 31, 2011, $562,262 in cash and pledges has been received. That is approximately 98 percent of the $575,000 campaign goal set last August.

“The United Way of Tuscarawas County is very optimistic that we will reach our goal by the end of January,” said Allan Sayre, campaign chair. According to Sayre, “many local businesses and individuals came through for the United Way again this year and we want to thank them all for their generosity – whether the gift was for $5 or $5,000 – each donation is appreciated and truly makes a difference.”

“Our campaign volunteers, led by Allan Sayre and Bob Smith, worked very hard this year, with most divisions exceeding their goals by the end of December,” said Alison Kerns, United Way president. Kerns went on to say that “without the help of numerous volunteers, the United Way could not hope to raise the funds needed to support our 17 health and human service programs.”

The Service Division, chaired by Rick Andrews of Troyer & Associates and Joel McKinnon of McKinnon Insurance, has achieved more than 155 percent of its goal.

Other divisions exceeding the 100 percent level include the Special Gifts Division at 141 percent, headed by community volunteer Agnes Swigart, and the Financial Division at 102 percent, lead by John Beitzel, community volunteer, Sally O’Donnell from First Federal Community Bank, Doug Sopher of Sopher Insurance, and Elaine Tedrow from Commercial & Savings Bank.

The Healthcare Division, under the leadership of Bruce James from Union Hospital, has reached 94 percent of goal and the Educational Division, headed by Rob Maurer of the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union, is at 91 percent.

Those individuals interested in serving as a volunteer during next year’s United Way campaign should contact Fred Weingarth at the United Way office at 330-343-7772.

The United Way of Tuscarawas County will recognize outstanding volunteers and contributors at their annual awards luncheon scheduled for Feb. 16. A final campaign report will be given at the luncheon.
