Thomas Mizer

Thomas M. Mizer died unexpectedly Jan. 17, 2012, at his home.

Born Dec. 4, 1933, in Strasburg, Tom was a son of the late George and Hyanthia Mizer. He was a hard worker who retired as a truck driver and was also the service manager for the former Haas Chevrolet, Strasburg, served as the zoning inspector for Strasburg, and was a 25-year volunteer for the Strasburg Fire Department.

Tom enjoyed life; when he wasn’t working he raced stock cars and go-karts and could always be found at an auction, taking great pleasure in bringing home a box of assorted items he bought for a dollar. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was also a member of the World Karting Association and the Strasburg Pullers Association.

A wonderful and loving dad and grandpa who also had a great sense of humor, Tom will be sadly missed by his children, Michael Mizer of Canton, Kathy (Gary) Little of New Philadelphia, Rick Mizer of Strasburg, and Julie (Jeff) Gibbs of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Adam and Sara Little and Joey and Gaby Eichel; and stepgrandchildren, Trisha, Mason, and Keaton Gibbs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol A. Mizer; brother, John Mizer; sister, Ellen Bowers; and granddaughter, Cassidy Eichel.

Services celebrating Tom’s life were held Jan. 21, at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Pastor Rich VanArsdalen officiating. Interment was in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Strasburg.
