A lifelong resident of Dennison, Janice was born April 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Arthur Burnie and Gertrude N. Bower. After graduation from Dennison High School in 1943, she earned her nursing degree at White Cross School of Nursing, Columbus, in 1946. A registered nurse, she worked several years in the maternity ward at Twin City Hospital, Dennison.
She was a member of Park Christian Church, Dennison, where she formerly sang in the choir. In her younger years, she had also been a member of the Twin City Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Uhrichsville Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the White Cross School of Nursing Alumni Association as well.
On Nov. 27, 1947, Janice married Robert E. Baker, who died in 1993. They enjoyed making peanut butter and chocolate fudge, which they shared with their family and friends every year at Christmas.
Janice is survived by children, Michael (Beth) Baker of Westchester, Karen Quillen of Layton, Utah, Bob (Beth) Baker of Uhrichsville, and Jon Baker of Dover; grandchildren, Colleen, Josh, and Kathleen Baker of Westchester, Kim Baker of Uhrichsville, and Nick (Melissa) Quillen of Salt Lake City, Utah; great-granddaughter, Hailey Quillen of Salt Lake City; and special nephew, Douglas Burnie (Sue) Bower of Canastota, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ralph E. Quillen; brother, Robert Bower; and sister, Bernadine Sechler.
Services will be held Feb. 1, at 1 p.m., at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Dennison, with Pastor Joe Stephon officiating. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. Family and friends are invited to call Jan. 31, from 5-8 p.m.
