Rural Action will host riparian workshops in partnership with Carroll and Tuscarawas Soil and Water Conservation Districts. These two-hour events are aimed at backyard gardeners and agricultural landowners interested in learning about stream bank stabilization and sediment reduction.

As communities see more development along the river, protecting healthy riparian areas becomes imperative to maintain healthy streams and stable stream banks. These educational presentations will provide participants with the skills to identify unhealthy riparian zones and practices that can be implemented to enhance these areas.

Along with the presentation participants will receive a free sample of native seed mix ideal for riparian areas as well as a poster outlining key information. Rural Actionís goal is to help develop healthy, environmentally conscious communities within the middle Tuscarawas River region.

Riparian education in Carroll County will be in conjunction with the Backyard Food Production event on April 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Friendship Center at the fairgrounds. The riparian workshop in Tuscarawas County will be held on April 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Brandywine Center in Dover. Events and refreshments are sponsored by the Farm Bureau.
