Writer's Guild welcomes guest speaker

The Tuscarawas County Writer's Guild will have its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 19. Marlene C. Miller, author of two books, "Grace Leads Me Home" and "Called to Be Amish: My Journey from Head Majorette to the Old Order," will speak.

Miller was raised English (non-Amish) in a small eastern Ohio town. With a troubled home life, she poured herself into school and extracurricular activities. Longing for acceptance and fulfillment, she found a new lifestyle of love and commitment as she married and was embraced into the Amish community. The telling of her journey invites people into the daily realities of Amish lifestyle.

As well as sharing Miller's compelling memoir, guild members will share their own work and stories. The 1,000-word writing prompt for this month will be "What's on your bucket list? What are you going to do about it?"

The guild meets at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts at 461 Robinson Drive SE in New Philadelphia at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month. For more information call 330-827-8514 or visit them on Facebook.
