Passport to Fishing program brought to new audience

James learned to tie a knot at a recent Passport to Fishing program made possible through a partnership between Rural Action and Starlight Enterprises Inc.

Rural Action and Starlight Enterprises Inc. brought the Passport to Education curriculum to a new audience on Monday, July 10. The event was held at Tuscora Park, and volunteers led stations on healthy habitat, knot tying and equipment, rules and regulations, and casting.
After attendees from Starlight learned the basics, everyone headed to Tuscora Park pond to put their skills into action. Led by Huff Run Watershed AmeriCorps member Sarah Homan, Passport to Fishing is one of many environmental education activities led by AmeriCorps members and Rural Action in Tuscarawas County.
AmeriCorps, Rural Action and Starlight partnered in writing grants for this educational event. Funding was received from several Ohio Department of Natural Resources grants.
Those interested in participating in future Passport to Fishing events will have a chance July 29 at the upcoming Lake and Land Festival or Aug. 5 at Atwood Lake Park.
For more information call the local Rural Action office at 330-859-1050 or follow Huff Run Watershed and Rural Action on Facebook. More photographs are available on the Starlight Enterprises Inc. Facebook page.
