Library to host music therapist

The Healing Power of Music, a free community educational program presented by the Dover Public Library and New Life Counseling, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the community room at the library.
Laura Smith of Hennis Care Centre will be the keynote speaker. The program will offer a brief history about music therapy and also will include how to utilize music for relaxation, active lifestyle, anxiety reduction and to promote respiratory health for chronic conditions such as asthma and COPD through singing and respiratory exercises.
“People want to learn what they can do on their own,” Smith said. “They want to get well and feel good.”
Smith is a graduate of the University of Akron and Radford University with both a Bachelor of Music in music education and music therapy. She is a board-certified music therapist as well as a certified asthma educator, specializing in respiratory health.
Registration for the program is requested. Call the library at 330-343-6123 to reserve a spot.
