Fish fry benefits Mud Run Watershed

Sebastian Teas, AmeriCorps member with Rural Action, gets ready for the annual fish fry. The event gives members of the community the opportunity to learn more about the restorative efforts of the Mud Run Streamkeepers.

The Mud Run Watershed Streamkeepers and Rural Action invite the community to attend their fifth annual Fish Fry Fundraiser at the Tuscarawas VFW, 429 N. Main St., Tuscarawas, on Saturday, March 10.
Meals will be served from 4-7:30 p.m. and will include fish, french fries, coleslaw, bread and dessert. Tickets are $10. There will be to-go options available.
The Mud Run Watershed Streamkeepers are members of the community dedicated to improving water quality in the local area. During the event Mud Run staff and volunteers will be present to answer questions about acid mine drainage reclamation plans, environmental education efforts and other projects being completed in the Mud Run Watershed.
An interactive 3-D watershed sandbox also will be set up for demonstration and hands-on exploration by both children and adults. Memberships will be available for anyone interested in becoming a Rural Action member with all proceeds benefiting the restoration of the Mud Run Watershed including environmental education and acid mine drainage reclamation projects.
“We’ve seen a lot of progress in Mud Run over the years,” said Marissa Lautzenheiser, watershed coordinator in the Middle Tuscarawas River Watershed. “What’s great about an event like the fish fry is that it not only raises awareness about our work, it allows the community to come together and celebrate the improvements achieved.”
